Ability Series(Episode 3)

Welcome back today as you join us on our new Episode of the "Ability Series"

Please remember that stories gathered from people with Unique Testimonies of
Sustainable and effective development from disability to a point of attained Success are written in the Series.
Today's Story is Captivating, and I would not imagine how a Lady on a wheelchair could make an attempt so much to overcome in life.... Happy Reading

My name is Kyautar-Allah Y Guwal, I am From Plateau State,  living and working in Mangu.
I am a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) survivor, was in a road traffic accident on 28/11/82 and I was a student who had just registered to do an N C E course,  unluckily for me, the incident happened just three months into the programme.
I spent 20 months in a teaching hospital and 9 months in a rehabilitation center, before I returned home totally paralyzed in the lower limbs and partially in the upper limbs.

After knowing the full extent of my injury I decided to  go back to school, and thus earned an OND in 1988 and subsequently HND in 1991, I did my Youth Service in 1992.

After about 6 years, I got employed in 1997 with Plateau State LGSC and has been in Service till the present day.

I rose through the ranks of Acct ll  to ACA, and Presently, I am a member of the following Instutes
1.Cost and Management Accontants, as an Associate Member
2. Chartered Management Accountants, as an Associate Member.
3. Certified Public Accountants Of Nigeria, as Fellow, and have been granted a license to practice as a public accountant by this Institute.

The journey so far, of rolling around in the wheelchair has not been without it's tweeny - weeny challenges, frustrations and irking moments. Most especially,  in our society that doesn't give you a chance or a plain level playground, nor the government that is not providing an enabling environment, you are stigmatized at home,  school, work, religious gatherings, relationships and even by public buildings that are not accessible, (Even hospitals are not!).
To some,  you are an object of pity, a dullard or a dunce, most people don't see beyond the wheelchair, cane, crutch or whatever accessories we use to move around. We are humans,  with feelings,  fears, likes and emotions, we can love and be loved, marry and be wonderful parents who will raise kids that do not in any ways inherit our disabilities at all!

Therefore to my fellow PWD (Persons with Disabilities) , no matter your disability or challenge, were you born with it, an amputee, a victim of misdiagnosed or mismanaged patient  or a SCI like me? Strive to show the world that we are just differently abled!  And we are gonna rock it!.
Ensure inclusive development, increase in visibility, improved access, be socially integrated, and usefully engaged.
No matter where you are, shine in your little corner until the Government' signs that Disability Rights Act into law.
YES WE CAN!!!!!!.
