This Episode is a Story about a Lady who moved from typical background struggles and disability challenges but made the push towards gaining a place for herself in her dream and pursuits.
"My name is Celine Osukwu, I was a victim of a Disability Challenge but today I stand strong as a survivor and a leader, though I face discrimination but this discrimination is what keeps me motivated. I find motivation in proving
the ‘she can’t do’ is wrong, I therefore encourage other persons suffering the same angle of discrimination to gain self- worth and stand strong, by standing strong you fight against ‘they cannot do’
mentality, you stand to change the mindset.
I was born a healthy child, fell seriously sick when I was 2 years old, unconscious for weeks, before I was certified okay and discharged. Few months later, I developed a disability called kyphosis. I grew up with this disability, suffered multiple discrimination as a girl and as a disabled child, and because of this I encountered multiple challenges growing up although I had strong desire to attain education.
I came from a very wretched home headed by my illiterate widowed mother, I lacked support in all ramifications, for instance I was rejected admission by the Principal of a Girls Secondary school when I was 10 years of age.
Again, being a girl child with a particular disability I was being sought after by ritual killers; my mother who was initially warned to do away with me, was again advised to keep me permanently in-house or else I would be kidnapped for ritual. I fought the battle by convincing her that I must not be locked indoor, I have to be allowed to go get education, which would not take place in her hut. (As Fate would have it, I eventually had encounter with ritual killers when I was 16 years but overcame by divine intervention)
Experiencing all this while I grow up didn't stop me from chasing after a better future for myself.
Today I am a charity worker, I have been into service to humanity since 1996. In 2004 I interned at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA while I was a Masters degree student of Middlesex University, London, UK.
I had my first degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria and I still have some other academic certificates from outside Nigeria.
Since a my NYSC I have been employed at various times and excelled in my career. I have served mankind in various capacities. I have touched so many lives around the world by virtue of my work activities, with deep focus and strong determination to assist other helpless individuals and I have never been deterred or daunted by any limitation.
In every situation there is a hand of God
at work, I do not blame anybody or feel despondent because of my situation neither do I hold myself down because I am a woman living with a disability, No I never did! I keep my shoulder high because I am a sign of God’s purpose of diversity of creation. I am made in the image of God and because I have unique but extra ordinary abilities which are testified by all
who have worked closely with me.
Yes, I beat stereotypes, I change mindsets, I hold leadership positions, I empower others, I inspire and encourage other persons with disabilities. I am a Winner.
